Responsibilities and Functions:
It is the policy of BIG HORN HOSPICE that volunteers play a critical role in the provision of Hospice services. Important responsibilities are a part of this role and must be taken seriously in order to maintain quality care.
A Hospice volunteer will:
- Be receptive to, and in agreement with, the Hospice philosophy.
- Have sufficient maturity to meet obligations undertaken.
- Be in good physical and emotional health.
- Obtain annual TB testing (See HFU Employee Infection Control Policies)
- Reside in Hospice service area. Be able to provide his/her own transportation and have liability insurance coverage on it.
- Complete Hospice training program, or present documentation of training completed elsewhere, to Volunteer Coordinator.
- Respect confidentiality of all contacts made with Hospice patients and families, and the information conveyed by Hospice staff, or through reading of Hospice medical records.
- Follow instructions given by Volunteer Coordinator in recording time and activities.
- Inform the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible if unable to continue to work with a client.
- Attend monthly volunteer discussion meetings, which are an essential part of coordination of care for hospice patients. The minimum requirement is 3 programs of inservice per year.
- Each volunteer will be considered on an individual basis and will be "matched" as appropriate with the patient/family requiring services.
- Volunteer has the option to decline any assignment.
